Several students have asked me about my plans for teaching
Statistics 371 in Spring 2012. This posting is my reply.
I have been hired to teach Lectures 1 and 2 of Statistics 371.
If you are enrolled in either of these lectures you will receive
one or more emails from me before classes begin.
If you are still trying to enroll in 371: I am sorry that
the U is not doing a better job at meeting your academic
needs. Having said that, note that there are no waiting
list for Statistics Department classes. Your best chance
of getting into one of my lectures is to repeatedly check
registration in the hopes that you check soon after somebody
else drops. (There are always drops.) If that situation
arises, don't worry about which lecture is open---1 or 2---
or which discussion is open. If you don't like your lecture
or discussion, we can work that out informally. EXCEPTION:
Lecture 3 is taught by another person and if you are enrolled
in Lecture 3 then you MAY NOT attend my lecture(s). Similarly,
if you are enrolled in either Lecture 1 or 2, you MAY NOT attend
Lecture 3.
Your other chance of getting into my class is to attend the
first day of lecture. I am not optimistic that this plan
will work for you. For decades the sections of intro
Stat courses have not had capacity to meet student demand.
Why? I don't know; it's above my pay grade.
