ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITIONS
DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON
The Department of Statistics at the University of Wisconsin is seeking one or possibly two candidates for tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor positions starting August 2009. Candidates should have an interest in statistical theory and methodology research and a PhD in Statistics or closely related quantitative field prior to the start of the appointment. The positions require training of graduate students. Candidates for associate professor with tenure position must have demonstrated excellence in scholarly research, teaching and service.
The Department has 20 regular faculty members and more than 80 graduate students. Many faculty members have joint appointments in other departments. The Department is well known for its strong interplay between statistical theory, methodology, and practice. There is a stimulating research environment as well as opportunities for collaborative research in other departments.
The Department has an extensive computing facility, including a LINUX-based network. The facilities support the use of several scientific programming languages and a number of powerful statistical and numerical packages, including R, SAS, Maple, and MATLAB.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison ranks among the top universities in the country in research expenditures and provides excellent support for faculty seeking external funding. In addition, internal research support is available from funds provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Madison is a pleasant medium-sized city (about 250,000 population) located in the lake region of southern Wisconsin. It is the state capital with a large base for educational research and government activities as well as university-industry interaction. The university and community offer outstanding intellectual, cultural and recreational activities. Madison's quality of life always ranks very high among cities of comparable size as a place to work and live.
